Your App's Target Market?

I was asked the question "describe your target market". If I am emulating an improving an existing app. How do I find out who their target market is, since essentially it will be the same as my improved version? In fact I'm looking at the competitor's mini site now....there are clues but I need to be specific and not just say the target market are young adults geez.
